{"id":1383,"date":"2010-04-20T23:57:00","date_gmt":"2010-04-20T23:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ebzbproductions.ebzb.org\/war-bonds-biloxi-ms\/"},"modified":"2010-04-20T23:57:00","modified_gmt":"2010-04-20T23:57:00","slug":"war-bonds-biloxi-ms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ebzb.org\/WPress\/2010\/04\/20\/war-bonds-biloxi-ms\/","title":{"rendered":"War Bonds: Biloxi, MS"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; margin: 5px 10px 0px 0px; padding: 0px;\">\n<div style=\"float: left; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; width: 470px;\">\n<h4 style=\"font-weight: normal; margin: 0pt 0pt 5px; padding: 0pt;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">Saturday, Mar. 27, 2010<\/span><\/h4>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<h1 style=\"margin: 0pt; padding: 0pt;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">A patriotic season finale for Community Concert<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: black; font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; line-height: 1.8em; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; padding: 0px;\">\n<div style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">\n<div style=\"margin: 10px 0pt 0pt; padding: 0pt;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">Community Concert closed its 61st season with \u201cWar Bonds,\u201d which offered theatrical renditions of World War II songs and historical highlights from a memorable era.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 10px 0pt 0pt; padding: 0pt;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">Veterans of war and conflicts dotted the Saenger audience, many with war brides by their sides.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 10px 0pt 0pt; padding: 0pt;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">They heard familiar radio sound bites, heartfelt letters from lovers and a musical stroll down Memory Lane.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">\n<div style=\"margin: 10px 0pt 0pt; padding: 0pt;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">This part of the program included \u201cThe Last Time I Saw Paris,\u201d \u201cBoogie Woogie Bugle Boy,\u201d \u201cI\u2019ll Be Seeing You,\u201d \u201cThis is the Army, Mr. Jones,\u201d \u201cAccentuate the Positive,\u201d \u201cSentimental Journey\u201d and \u201cAs Times Go By,\u201d among others.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 10px 0pt 0pt; padding: 0pt;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">Actress Serena Ebhardt demonstrated strong acting skills and a fluent vocal range best emphasized by her dramatic rendition of \u201cLilli Marlene,\u201d a pleasing take-off of the 1940s icon Marlene Dietrich.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 10px 0pt 0pt; padding: 0pt;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">Ebhardt\u2019s interpretation of Rosie the Riveter clearly showcased her trained, theatrical background and working knowledge of stage movement.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 10px 0pt 0pt; padding: 0pt;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">Her husband, actor Daniel von Brunnen, was best featured in a light, flirtatious scene with unsuspecting audience member Betty Gamez, whom he&nbsp;selected at random.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 10px 0pt 0pt; padding: 0pt;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">Concert patrons came dressed in red, white and blue and some in period attire.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 10px 0pt 0pt; padding: 0pt;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">Board member Jim Stok drew double takes in his B-29 fighter-pilot uniform, Sandy Skipper arrived in a national Waves uniform and board member Margaret Justice was in all-American red with a sequined military hat.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 10px 0pt 0pt; padding: 0pt;\">\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\">In opening ceremonies, vocalist Chris Moore sang an American medley following the presentation of colors by Biloxi High School Junior ROTC students Richard Mauce, Donald Beaugez, Allegra Misseldine and Alegardro Castillo, under the direction of Lt. Col. (Ret.)
