The script&#8217;s&nbsp; emphasis on basic humanity and the<br \/>\nhorror of it all over-rules our&nbsp; national penchant for<br \/>\nglorifying war.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: &quot;trebuchet ms&quot; , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in;\">\n<span style=\"color: black;\"><span style=\"font-family: &quot;trebuchet ms&quot; , sans-serif;\">Serena<br \/>\nEbhardt and David zum Brunnen are the&nbsp; quality couple who create<br \/>\nsuch works as last year&#8217;s Stoneleaf one-man-show&nbsp; submission,<br \/>\n&#8220;Via Dolorosa&#8221; &#8212; one of the highlights of that season.<br \/>\nThis new&nbsp; production is more easy-going, with lots of<br \/>\nmemory-jogs from the likes of Bing&nbsp; Crosby, Frances Langford,<br \/>\nJohnny Mercer, Irving Berlin, Glenn Miller, Bob&nbsp; Hope, and the<br \/>\nAndrew Sisters. If those names ring your bell this is a show you&#8217;d&nbsp;<br \/>\nlove.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: &quot;trebuchet ms&quot; , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in;\">\n<span style=\"color: black;\"><span style=\"font-family: &quot;trebuchet ms&quot; , sans-serif;\">Ebhardt<br \/>\nis a diminutive dynamo, mother of a&nbsp; four-year old, possessor of<br \/>\na clear, bright and compelling soprano and the most&nbsp; riveting<br \/>\neyes on the recent stage. Her eye contact with the audience is<br \/>\nlovely&nbsp; to look at and helps hold attention to the splendid<br \/>\nstage-craft being displayed&nbsp; by both actors in this<br \/>\noften-poignant pageant of music and words. This duo knows&nbsp; the<br \/>\ntwists and turns. The selection of writings and the connecting<br \/>\nnarrative are&nbsp; a wonder to see and hear.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: &quot;trebuchet ms&quot; , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: &quot;trebuchet ms&quot; , sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: black;\">zum<br \/>\nBrunnen has collected and reads actual&nbsp; historical documents<br \/>\nfrom the <\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in;\">\n<span style=\"color: black;\"><span style=\"font-family: &quot;trebuchet ms&quot; , sans-serif;\">era,<br \/>\nranging from the words of Franklin Roosevelt&nbsp; to zum Brunnen&#8217;s<br \/>\nlate father, Chester, a WWII veteran. The personal letters &#8212;&nbsp;<br \/>\nmany from the archive of Rutgers University&#8217;s oral history collection<br \/>\n&#8212; are the&nbsp; glue that hold together more than a score of<br \/>\nfamiliar tunes. Anyone over 60&nbsp; will know the majority of these,<br \/>\nranging from &#8220;Sentimental Journey,&#8221; &#8220;White&nbsp;<br \/>\nCliffs of Dover&#8221; and &#8220;One Meatball&#8221; to &#8220;I&#8217;ll Get<br \/>\nBy.&#8221;&nbsp; They open and close the&nbsp; show with &#8220;Love<br \/>\nLetters Straight from the Heart&#8221; by Heyman and Young. One of<br \/>\nthe&nbsp; most memorable tunes is &#8220;I&#8217;ll be Seeing You&#8221; by<br \/>\nSammy Fain.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: &quot;trebuchet ms&quot; , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 0in;\">\n<span style=\"color: black;\"><span style=\"font-family: &quot;trebuchet ms&quot; , sans-serif;\">Wardrobe<br \/>\nselections are so dated and timely, down to Ebhardt&#8217;s dark stocking<br \/>\nseam on the back of her legs. Even accompanists&nbsp; Julie Florin<br \/>\nand Diane Petteway wear period suits and hats, adding accuracy&nbsp;<br \/>\nto the trip down memory lane. Ebhardt makes frequent forays into the<br \/>\naudience to&nbsp; sit on laps and tease the troops.
