Before we were online, there was the clothesline…

The Clothesline Muse is a devised theater production featuring music, dance, visual art and projections. Between old-school and new cool, a grandmother and granddaughter engage by unfolding stories from the “line.” Kariamu Welsh’s choreography, Nnenna Freelon’s original songs, and Maya Freelon Asante’s set and visual projection designs are all a loving tribute to a long mother-line of wisdom passed forward.

The Clothesline Muse collaborators are family. Maya Freelon Asante and Nnenna Freelon are daughter and mother and Kariamu Welsh is Asante’s mother-in-law.

The Clothesline Muse was made possible with funding by the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Theater Project, with lead funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
