EbzB offers arts-in-education performances, residencies, and workshops for students. Additionally, EbzB offers professional development for educators. 

EbzB’s 55-minute versions of our performances, along with study guides, audience etiquette tip-sheets, and lesson plans, provide a comprehensive educational experience tailored for schools and special events. This approach enhances the theatre-going experience and deepens understanding for students and attendees. 

EbzB offers workshops and residencies that can be paired with a performance or provided as stand-alone activities. This flexibility allows for a variety of educational and engaging experiences.

Theatre Arts Residencies and Workshops

Students will be guided in creating a devised performance from original oral histories that they gather themselves. EbzB conducts a needs-assessment with faculty to select specific topics that align with the curriculum, meeting National and State Education Standards.

EbzB also offers an Online Classroom that includes interactive assignments, lesson plans, and supporting materials. Once contracted, clients receive an access code to access these resources.

Lesson Plans

Devised theatre, also known as collaborative creation in the United States, is a form of theatre where the script originates not from a writer or writers, but from collaborative, usually improvisatory, work by a group of people, typically the performers. By the time a devised piece is presented to the public, it usually has a fixed form: the improvisation is confined to the creation process, and either a writer, a director, or the performers themselves decide exactly what is to be included and the running sequence.

In addition to live, in-school performances, EbzB Productions offers Virtual Performances via streaming. A live talkback with the artists via Zoom or Google Meet after the screening is also available, providing an interactive experience for the audience.

Professional Development for Educators

EbzB Productions offers on-site professional development workshops for educators who want to learn and experience arts integration lesson planning. CEU Credits Eligible.

• Trained in workshops from The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The Lincoln Center Institute’s International Educator Workshop, and the National Center for Creative Aging, Serena Ebhardt, and David zum Brunnen have extensive experience working with students, teachers, elders, and business professionals in on-site residencies and workshops.  

Ebhardt explains and models arts integration for educators. She uses visual art, music, found objects, text, speech, and movement to create a devised drama presentation incorporating curriculum connections. 

Participants are asked to mindfully and physically engage with the lesson, synthesize personal connections to the material, and work as an ensemble. 

Creating devised theatre inspires inclusivity and self-esteem. Physicalization and vocalization enhance memory, which is useful for recall on tests. Ebhardt also incorporates the basic tools of an actor (breath, body, eyes, face, and voice), which will serve teachers and students in effective everyday communication.

EbzB Professional Development workshops include work for many public school systems in North Carolina, including the Chatham County Arts Council, the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County’s Arts Integration Institute, and the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Government’s workshop, “Beyond The Founding Fathers: African-American History and the Constitution.”
